Icelandic Chickens

I finally got a picture of one of the big bucks as he ran through my yard this morning. Sorry for the poor quality. He was all the way across the property before I got out there with my camera. If you look closely you can see the antlers. Michael counted eight points. Maybe he'll be in less of a hurry when he comes back through.

Jake, I am afraid I have more bad news about your hairy legged Icelandics. HINT: Kelly stopped by this morning.

She has proclaimed the two white ones to be roos, one with a single comb and the other a rosecomb.

The good news is she thinks the brown one is a girl!

Why doesn't she just stay home? Oh yeah, she was kind enough to deliver a Dogloo for the goats to me!

I have eggs hatching again on Monday and was supposed to ship 15 chicks about 200 miles from me. Only ten from the entire batch made it to lockdown so I won't be shipping to her. I'll have to sell them locally. If we get any more VHL Icelandics I'll save them and ship them with the other three if you like. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Mary,

they , almost, had to be one or the other, so I am glad that there is one pullet anyhow, Murphy says there would be just one out of the 3, but life goes on. Do have a pair anyhow, and a back-up,

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

I had to put the biggest Icelandic roo into timeout, for he was terrorizing all the other Icelandic roos and the pullets. Maybe that is why the pullets are not laying yet.

All the other Icelandics were much happier when he was in timeout. There was no more pecking, and chasing each other, and the roos were crowing. Maybe I will sell him, but he is the prettiest, and biggest of them all. Why him?!?!

This is him-

Lots of fighting Icelandic roos these days! I have two little pip-squeaks about six inches tall that are duking it out every time I look out my window. They are up in each others faces, hackles flared, doing the stare-down then jumping at each other. It is ridiculous.

My cream legbars are venturing out more this afternoon. The big mean girls have let up a bit on the show of force. This afternoon they were going to the waterer in tight formation. It looked like one big messed up chicken.

I have a pip in the incubator tonight. I have ten eggs scheduled to hatch Monday. These are some of the ones that were in the Brinsea Advance and the temp was too low. Between the two incubators, 24 eggs in each, a total of ten reached lockdown stage.

Kelly and I were counting on this sale to buy our turkeys!

We're splitting an order, I am getting five and she's getting the other ten! I know it is stupid, but I have this thing about paying for poultry out of poultry money. I guess I feel less guilty that way.

How about you Kathy?

Gosh I am mean tonight.

OK I am going down to the goat pen and see if anyone is in the dogloo. Where's the flashlight? Be back with a report.

Ok, none of the goats are in the dogloo. Three are fighting over the little sleeping platform and the one I got the dogloo for is on the bare dirt beside it!

I remembered our other goats wouldn't sleep on the ground so I moved the dogloo on top of the sleeping platform and Thelma went in. She came back out but who knows what they'll do without me there with a flashlight in their faces. The emus are out tonight too, having refused to go in their enclosure. As I was walking around in the pitch black I would hear a Whoosh go past me and shine my flashlight to see Stu and Lou go by. Jack and Diane were snorting at me from the adjacent pasture assuming I was a coyote with a maglite. It was scary out there!

Oh man FarmerBoy,time out is not good enough. Just send him to me and I'll show him whats what! Lets see,I'll give him three hens of his own,all the food and water he wants and freerange him two hours daily. That ought to teach him!

My black Icelandic continues to lay little pullet bullets. I sure enjoy watching her. She won't let the BW roo near her.

I saw the BW roo try and get frisky with the black star hen. He could get his cloaca to meet hers. The next time he tried, she walloped him.

My NH is laying nice brown eggs, I'll have to get a pic, she looks different than your's Kathy.

BTW, I love all of you too.

Had Thanksgiving with two brothers and a sister. There was a good crew for dinner at my brother's place in PV...not too far south from Laree's.

My sister flew down from UT to buy a new car. She got a Lexus 450H. Gorgeous vehicle. If I had an extra 50Gs to spend it would not be on a hybrid car.
