Icelandic Chickens

Mary - don't get attacked by your own guard animals!

And unless your giving me a coop too, then you'd better not count on me taking 10 turkeys.

What kind of turkeys? I am considering some, plus some geese, we shall see.

Right now I have 2 Purrkids going from my lap to the tabletop, across the keyboard, whatcha gonna do??

Lil Sis has to check EVERYTHING out, including my coffee, Lil Guy makes Olympic leaps across everything including nearby other higher places, and then back, I can still hold both of them in one hand if need be, if the hand is quick.

Daron that rooster was hatched in April the others in June so they may well catch up to him, and he is gorgeous, he started off as a chipmunk then got very dark very soon. The rooster I saved out of the June hatch was the biggest one of the hatch and now he is the biggest of my keepers.

Mary and I have been drooling over the Sweetgrass turkeys at Porters Rare Turkey Farm.

Hope those kitties are fixed Jake, or you're gonna have a lot of them come spring time.

Hi Kelly

I like Porters birds, and for sure the Sweetgrass, also considering the Red Palm, a slightly smaller bird then the Sweetgrass, maybe better for a bachelors cooking. If I get the 15 can figure half Toms, keep 2 and put the rest of them in the freezer, maybe with a hen or two. Roast Turkey is one of my favorites, right there with a super good steak broiled, or broiled half fryer. Makes me hungry just thinking of all of them. I think 3-4 hens would produce just about enough for me. And a couple to barter.

On the Plumbing of the felines, the Mama Jinji is first on the list, after she gets these two weaned. I am debating on Lil Guy, he is for sure a keeper, he has become my little Buddy, wherever I go inside he is by my feet. Interestingly, to me, is that Missy my older gal who was so standoffish to the kittens at first, and would spitz at them if I held one up has now become a big sister/aunt to them , spends a lot of time playing with them or just hanging on to them and washing them, she doesnt let go til she is finished either, so thats a nice and fun development to watch. The Purrkids are a bit young for fixing, not 2 mos old yet.

Awww, they are little. My son wants a cat, but since he never takes care of his pets, I put the kabosh on it.

It was a gorgeous day here yesterday - hoping it will be the same today. I sat outside for a while with the chickens. I can't wait for them to start up again from their molt - I want some eggs! Briet was the only chicken yesterday to give me an egg. She's a good layer and lays 3 days on then 1 day off.

They are little, Missy does a great job on the washing, behind the ears and everywhere, and she doesnt let them go til she is finished !!

Cats are a part of the family, dogs too, I dont trust people who arnt comfortable with them. We just cant relate.

Its 32 here, high overcast, no actual thawing going on but life goes on anyhow, this is a very good place to be. My Icees have been with a 24 hr light about 4 days I am hoping in a week or two to start seeing some eggs. I want some omelettes ! And so will the Fab Feathered Three.

I am wondering what Mary has hatching now with the pipping going on last night. Due tomorrow so today should be about right.

Oh man FarmerBoy,time out is not good enough. Just send him to me and I'll show him whats what! Lets see,I'll give him three hens of his own,all the food and water he wants and freerange him two hours daily. That ought to teach him!

You can have him if he does not improve his behavior!

I will be selling the extra roos soon, as soon as I post pictures here to get opinion of which to keep. I have 11 roos, will keep about 5.

I hope to get Bourbon Red turkeys from Porter's too!

Jake - I had a cat, she was my first pet as an adult on my own. She was a good cat, never clawed furniture or anything, but she was messy. She'd get out of the litter box and shake her paws so that litter would go all over the bathroom. And she couldn't put her face to water, she had to dip her paw in it then lick it off her paw. So she'd dribble water all over the floor too.

We have a good amount of poison oak here, and cats always seem to have the knack of bringing it inside. (more so than dogs because they cuddle up to your face) Poison oak loves me and I end up having to go to the doctor for cortisone injections. Plus with wild critters here, I just don't feel right about having an outdoor cat here. A dog is plenty for me right now. Maybe someday when kids are gone, I'll get another cat, but life is just too hectic right now.

Oh and Mary is hatching Icelandics. I saw the emu eggs yesterday when I was there, they are gorgeous! (and heavy)

Kids and I got the Christmas tree decorated this morning, so that's done.

I now sent them out to help dad with his wood drying rack he's building.
