Icelandic Chickens

What the heck is a mouse doing IN A NEST? For cryin' out loud! Shouldn't they be scurrying around looking for feed? I am scared to death of mice! Spiders, snakes, bugs.... no problem. A mouse and I am

Kathy, You and my MIL would get along great!! Sounds like your mice have figured out where the warmest spot in the coop is though...

I have a good friend who swears by the ultra sonic repellers for mice but he says you have to get the good ones, not the el cheapo ones.. here's a link to one that is supposed to be really good.. http://www.victorpest.com/store/rodent-control/m792

Or
you can go with what you always see in the warehouses and industrial places.. something like http://www.amazon.com/Kness-Pro-Ketch-104-0-002-Multiple-Catch/dp/B000FJTWH8 or http://www.amazon.com/Victor-M260-Multi-Kill-Electronic-Mouse/dp/B001JJCW0M

good
luck!!

those Wheaties want to brood everything.
I have caught them sitting on each other!

If those mice are still around in the daylight, the other chickens will catch and eat them.
I have had good luck catching mice using the cheap, old fashioned mouse traps baited
with peanut butter. You have to put them in areas that the chickens cannot reach.
You don't want to use any kind of poison or bait in case the chickens eat the mice.

BTW...every time I see a mouse I think of you

I'm with Shawn, seems they found a nice, warm nest to sleep in! I can't believe they aren't eaten by the chickens! I'd try moving the broody and putting a trap inside that nestbox and blocking off the entrance to it so the chickens can't reach the trap.

Have a great week!

Kate I like the 'country disheveled' look on her! Pure natural !!

Re Mouses, I have two chicken socialized mama cats who love mice, for snacks, they will lay in the run as the chickens peck around them waiting for a mouse to show its furry head. And we have two Purrkids in training, keeping cozy at the Fab Feathered 3s brooder. Sure beats poison !

I had a doe just outside yesterday, I am going to put a bit of alfalfa out today and see if they like it.

Nope CL, I am fine, getting finer by the day, must have been my poor communication, I do that.

Dar, LOTS of vit E and C and D3, and a couple aleve at night and in the morn, Uncle Jakes Surgery recovery plan. It works, especially the D3 for pain relief, and aleve is the best joint pain reliever I have ever found. The others boost the immune system. Not a doctor, but am a biologist.

My Girls go for them too, dont bat an eye at going after a big one, also large pack rats. They like them all. The Purrkids are all wond up this morn, first thing I scrambled 2 eggs and put a can of their cat food on it and they and mama Jinji cleaned it up. Then slept hard a couple hours, now they are bouncing off walls, and the Fab 3 just watch them rocket on by. The little cockeral I will miss when he goes to his pet home, very sweet nature. His brother though is all rooster, first to do everything and already watches over his two smaller room mates.

Lots more in picking cockerals to keep then beauty, and so far he has everything covered. He makes 4 roosters at the moment but one will probably be rehomed also, Isi's comb is healing, which is great, that happened on our first -5 night, and a lot more of that is coming. We shall see what will be.
