Icelandic Chickens

Mary has my son (12) wanting emu's. He went to dinner with my DH and DH's parents and all he talked about were emu's.

Congrats Mary on the Legbar eggs!

There is a reason I tell my son he probably wouldn't like BYC... There is NO WAY I'm letting him see the emu cuddled up to Kathy's daughter, he'd never let me hear the end of it.

I am probably the lone stranger but for me this year at least it is only Icelandics, to do them justice, two breeding roosters, to keep in separate harems, at least one brood pen to build, and probably a couple other brood pens and sparate rooster pens,

I am going to be mainly using the dark enhanced feathered rooster the most, but also want some chicks by Bjorn for standby, he has so much going for him in size and vigor, enough size to offset the other if he doesnt mature as big as I'd like, alhough it is catching up with the white rooster. They are very close in size right now. We'll see, Bjorn is big from being dominant at the feeding.

The emus are tempting, but, there are a couple other scandinavian chickens I'd try first.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !

Hey Jake! I was wondering if you could bring some hatching eggs to Chickenstock in June for me? I would like to hatch some chicks from the Feather-legged roo, and build up my Icelandic flock again. Well, I won it. 2 Emu eggs. :barnie Its suppose to be shipped this week. :weee I will need serious help incubating them. :th

Sounds like you have a good plan, and the discipline to stick to it. Our plan is to slowly convert over to Icelandics and maybe Cream Legbars( My wife likes the blue eggs and the look of the hens). So we won't be over wintering any non-Icelandic white egglayers. Maybe next Easter I can get all my hatching eggs from The Sheriff.

Hi Daron

If I get the others separated in time to be sure who is the sire, if not can get some to you another way. Soon as the sludge , mud and slush is gone I need to get to the penning and separating.

It will be.
