Icelandic Chickens

Cute pics Mary! You must have a rapid refresh camera because there usually isn't much time between the mealworms hitting the plate and pandemonium!

Here's my story for the day!

I looked into the broody room today and Lukka was looking at something behind the door that I couldn't see. She was in the broody egg with her babies. I opened the door and saw her black baby with a leg stuck under the feeder. It was in full rigor mortis with the other leg straight up. I pulled it out from under the feeder and went into action trying to save it. The baby was stone cold.I blew into it's face as I headed back to the house with it. Of course I had to video tape everything. Here's the video. Get ready to read very fast! (Sorry I meant to fix it before uploading and forgot)

Tell 'em it's for CEU's. I did mouth to beak respirations, and crop compressions.

Mary that is a miracle. Poor baby. That chick looked totally dead, I wouldn't have bothered trying. I hope Lukka is accepting it back - all that cheeping would upset any mama.

I am just doing a blog post about this too. I found a 1941 edition of Poultry Science and Practice! It is a textbook for Purdue Iniversity and it has all the notes and stuff from the freshman student! It even has his class schedule and tickets to Purdue Poultry Breeding School and Purdue Broiler School. I am so excited to read it!

No worries, I just checked on her and all babies are tucked in for the night. At first I put it in my coat pocket to dispose of but then I thought I might just try to warm it up so I pulled it out and blew into it's face all the way back up to the house.
