BTW, don't my girls look pretty as your avatar. Have you got an egg, besides the one from the roost?

The dark ones melt my heart. Maybe it is because I have only gotten a few and lost a couple. Love them!

No more eggs yet, and after today they will completely mad at me, I'm doing major coop remodel, gotta get them in the breeder pen, the coronations will be next to them and then the wheatens, well they are still in the brooder so I have time on them (we are putting up a new fence and a new coop (don't tell Larry) for them-he just left for southern CA to be with his mom at xmas...he's driving home through paso robles to pick up a roo (wynette's line too) for Fanny and Sadie, and arn't they just gorgeous, they are really getting the VIP treatment here but they do miss the orchard... Need a name for the roo....

AND from lotsapaints I'm getting indian river & partridge plymouth rock eggs AND Kathy is sending me Buckeyes, some SLW and other little treasures!!!

I just went down and took pics of the new coop.

Here is the wall we built with the screen door leading into the coop section:

Here is a view from the roost area of the coop. The wall will be covered in chicken wire for light and ventilation. Plus I will be able to go into the brooder room and count heads at night without going into the coop.

This is the brooder/incubator room.

At the base of the wall frames I am going to try to build rear roll-out nest boxes so I can collect eggs from inside the brooder room. I am going to be selling my white eggs for eating and if they lay for much time on bedding they get stained, even if the bedding is cleaned.

On a side note, we have house guests visiting from Canada.

Jack is unimpressed.

After looking at my pictures I am kicking myself for not putting in insulation and siding.

Michael will probably suffer a coronary if I suggest taking down the roosts and doing it now. Our winters get so hot and I know insulating will help a lot. I wouldn't have to take down the wall, just the roosts. Hmm, how do I approach this?

Very carefully.

I insulated and put up the OSB sheeting myself in the shed coop so I can do that here too. Wish me luck.
