I candled again last night...............I know, I know.............I've never candled a hatch this much....................BUT my bator temp was a tad high, so I was opening it anyway to let out the heat............and I'm sick, so I had nuthin better to do.....................AND







My Icelandics are filling up their shells FAST!

YeeHaw! I candled too. That's why I added to my signature line! My Icelandic is growing and all 8 of my cochins are moving and grooving!

PROJECT FREE THE VIKINGS continues today as I attempt to turn this Martha Stewart bookcase into a 9 hole, rear roll-out nestbox. I bought it at Home Depot and assembled it yesterday. I am using Opa's plans with obvious shortcuts. That 3/4 inch plywood deal just ain't happening here at Cluckawalla Valley. My plan is to install it in the wall between the coop and brooder room so that the eggs roll into the back and I don't have to go into the coop. I can gather the eggs right from the brooder room.

On a scary note, last evening we saw a Cooper's Hawk fly out of the very blackberry vines we were thinking would be a good hiding place for the freerangers! I was just out feeding the donkeys and three huge red-tail hawks glided over shrieking. All the chickens ran for cover in the run.
I will be brave, I will be brave, I will be brave...

Let's just keep thinking that the flock is smarter than the hawks etc and will be fine and run for cover
