Icelandic Chickens

Yucky weather Mahonri!

I am worried my cream legbar roo Reggie may have bumblefoot. There is no lesion but he started limping like crazy today and three of his toes are purplish. He is only moving enough to get out of the sun. I gave him an injection of penicillin tonight and we'll see if he responds. If he does it will probably only be temporary. Unless he develops an obvious wound I won't try surgical intervention. Luckily I have six eggs incubating and will put the next two week's eggs in as well. I was trying to hatch a replacement for Reggie. I don't like his eyes and he has a weird tail feather. I am going to try to breed the legbars to the English SOP. But I don't want him to go out this way! I guess well just have to see what happens.

Jack looked handsome today.

Diana was a brat today. What else is new?

Diana loves emus.

Jack tolerates emus.

Until they invade his personal space.

I don't let them mingle except over the fence. Michael put them together. Not again! Emus have no sense of other's personal space and Jack is too skittish. This could have ended badly!

I agree I hope all turns out well with Reggie rooster

Mahonri.............I still don't know how you live there. I couldn't do it. Too darn hot.

I too am amazed that Lukka and Isi can produce black chicks. What a great variety you got Mary! Love the donkey/emu pictures too. I wonder if Jack will tolerate them better on "their" turf, but is defensive of "his" turf"?

That turkey poult is adorable. Can't wait to come back and pick mine up!

See you guys in a week! I'm off to New Jersey/New York tomorrow. (I'll probably check in from time to time on my phone though)

So cute.... my black icelandic chick that is now a few months old is now gold headed black body with some gold around his back as well. excited to see how these turn out
Lukka just completed a 100% hatch of all eight eggs. There may be a ninth under her. I lost count.

She has 3 black, 3 yellow, and two chipmunk. I am sure with the heat we are having that she will be up and about with them tomorrow and I can get a final count. I threw fresh grass on her nest and left her alone. I did take some video that I am working on. It's not very good as I took it through the hardware cloth.

If all the male poults start feather dancing the girls I may have them all identified by the time you get back!
