Icelandic Chickens

Wee Acre, that's a good looking flock!

TNEBEARCHICK, yaaay!!

So it looks like I'll be setting seven Icelandic eggs, probably tomorrow

I let the Icelandics out to free range on the back lawn after work, and when it came time to put them away for bed, all three of my pullets hopped the fence and went into the area where the BR cockerel is! A month's time, and only seven eggs to show for it. But, in better news, I had two of Flekka's eggs that were cracked, which I used for cookies tonight. Both were fertile! I think that half of the eggs I collected are hers. I'm really hoping for a daughter from her.
can't wait to see some of Flekka's offspring! can you believe those pullets....first they are a bunch of freeloaders then they take every opportunity to run around behind your back.

Congrats! Having Icelandics is like Christmas every day. They change so much growing up, every time you look at them, you still don't know what they are going to end up like!

Yesterday I got an egg from all of my Icelandic beauties (all 4 of them) and a broody sizzle hatched out one Icelandic chick. Another of the eggs she kicked to the curb not long after this one hatched and it didn't make it (she's a first time momma). She seems to be doing fine with the chick. I may have to try to sneak another chick under her tonight so chick isn't by itself.

More chicks! I actually had a Wyandotte go broody...she has been practicing but think she is going to stick with it. If so going to try and hold her off until the Icee eggs from Deb arrive.

Also have an OEGB pullet acting broody today. If that's the case I will just put her eggs back under her.
