Who is hatching more for the Easter Hatch?  I know RedIII and I are....

Not hatching icelandics, but hatching for Easter. For Icelandic's, I just steal from Mary. Got an Icelandic and an isbar in my brooder now.

Hey everyone

just popping in.
I do not have Icelandic's anymore well for now. I lost all mine to a pesky hawk but have moved.
I have currently constructed two breeding pens for my
Crele Penedesenca and White Empordanesa but more are coming.
Plus a healthy size layer flock which I am sure will house some icelandics..

Hi I didn't read all 1790 posts but maybe you can tell me quickly. About how many eggs per week do the hens lay when not broody, and what size are the eggs? Also, what is the size of the hens? My son is interested in adding some of them to our flock, they are very interesting and it would be nice to have more broody hens. Thanks.

I would say 5/week med. - large egg. The hens are on the small side for LF. The hardest part can be finding their eggs, they don't always take to nesting boxes.

Mine never lay in the nesting box, once I know where they lay I can get their eggs.

I set my eggs tonight! I finally got that incubator up to the correct temp and humidity, and in the eggs go! Looks like I've got three from Flekka and four collectively from my other two girls, Summer and Autumn. Theirs are very hard to tell apart. Flekka's are easy because they're tinted, thank goodness. Here's hoping for another girl to add to the flock! This is going to be a long, nail-biting three weeks.

This is true. Mine prefer to hide their eggs from me, even if it's by burying them in shavings in the middle of the pen because they have nowhere else to go

They didn't get fed to the flock as fast as I'd intended this winter. They kind of froze. Solid.
