Brad, Looking good.........the cockerel isn't bad either!...but I could be biased. He appears to have mottling
Does he have any red on his wing bow or back?![]()
It's happening this weekend...
I'm going to be real nice.
Over my five years on BYC, I've had folks here on BYC be VERY nice to me, (The Sheriff, kathyinmo, laree, NotAFarm, SCG, pasofinofarm, and many others etc..) so I'm passing it on. I can no longer keep roos so.....
There is an FFA group in the East Valley that are looking for "project chickens".
So, they will be picking up my entire flock of Icelandics. 1 pretty roo and 9 hens/pullets.
I got them originally to help preserve the breed. While I love watching them and their antics and they are most certainly "EYE CANDY"... with the gorgeous young roo crowing to beat the band each morning and doing nothing yet with the ladies, I decided I'd let them go where I know they'll stay pure and this land race chicken will be preserved.
My wife will miss those pretty little white eggs, (they lay almost as well as my leghorns) but they are going to a greater good.
So to the rest of you... continue passing forward the good!
He has a really different comb, almost like a cushion. I love the barring in his hackles. I hatched out a boy like that too, but his hackle feathers are blonde. In fact, I liked him so much he made the cut to grow out, all his male siblings got moved to the bachelor pen...............sort of a one way option............... That particular hatch of eight was 5/3...........way too many boys.
Quote: Deb, I haven't had any others with that kind of comb so I believe he is the offspring of my Forsaela that came from kathyinmo last spring. She was in the breeding pen with Falki when I was collecting eggs for Brad. Here is a picture showing her comb. I currently have 6 chicks that I know are hers so I'll see if any others have her comb. She has no gold/red and that is why I asked Brad about it, I'm 99.9% sure his cockerel is from her.

I have a pullet that just moved up to the big girl pen that is also all black & silver, very unique. She is the first I've had with that coloring. My girls are all shades of brown with varying amounts of blue in them. Now I'm going to have to look though the growout pens for comb types. They've all been the typical huge rose type combs and lately I've started getting some SC's, all twisted of course because of the crests.
I need to take pictures of my cockerel I'm keeping. It's so hard to pick, with no standard to cull to, you just pick what you like and I like them all!
