Icelandic Chickens

FREE Icelandic Cockerels

I have 3 pure Icelandic cockerels that are destined for the freezer unless someone needs a rooster for their Icelandic breeding program. These are birds from the Behl importation and (2) of them can be seen in post 18616. There will be no charge for these roosters if you need them for breeding purposes. I am not interested in shipping these birds, and they will only be available for pick up in Central Illinois.

Ugh! I just got home from work and went out to check on my broody that has all of the remaining Icelandic eggs. There should have been eight under her, and instead I found one egg, one chick. No shells. I had at least three eggs that were developing under her and were almost ready to hatch! I checked her crop in case she is the dreaded egg eater, but there's nothing in there. I am worried that my little teenage chicken buddy that likes to come over may have taken them. I am really not happy right now

Sorry for ranting, I have just had it this week.

Understandable ranting.

I hope you are able to figure out what is going on and address it.

Ten new Icelandic arrivals at NotAFarm!

Momma, Forsaela and a few of her new arrivals.....

I agree with others, get a lock. Good luck!

NotAFarm, congrats on so many beautiful babies! I love Forsaela's hairdo, too. What a pretty girl.

Well, I'm certainly going to look into the locked coop thing, as this is just ridiculous. I checked the lone egg last night, and I can see that there's a chick in there, but no movement. I hope it was just resting and is okay. No telling WHAT happened.

But, here is the newest member of my Icee flock:

Coldupnorth, thank you again for the wonderfully-packaged eggs! I'm so excited that I finally got a baby from your flock. This little one is very feisty, so I'm hoping that it does well. With the way everything has gone lately, I'm absolutely paranoid that it will get killed somehow, bleh. Looks to be a RC. Guess I have to keep my SC roo around a while longer, if I want to breed that trait into more of my flock.
