Icelandic Chickens

If I lived close enough, I would so visit Jake and get pictures of his flock. But alas, the closest Icelandic keepers to me that I've met are Sean and then Christina, who has the young pair hatched from my flock. This is one reason why I wanted to get Icees. No one in this state had them! Gah!

Thank you all for the compliments on the review

That made my day.

I haven't posted a pic in a while, so here is one of my Icelandic roosters. He's just over a year old. He's in a bit of a molt, or at least in the process of changing his sickles.

What a gorgeous guy you have, Mike! I love the hackle color and mottling on him! They look very odd without their sickle feathers

and mine seem to walk off balance a bit when their tails are missing!

Of all the chicks from Falki x Forsaela, none of the males had his brilliant hackle color that looks like yours. Half of the pullets have red of varying degrees......maybe the eggs from Fjola that my broody SLW, Heidi, is sitting on will produce a cockerel with hackles like his sire. The singleton that Eyja was raising looks, at this point, like a pullet.

I'll try and get a current pic of it.

Thanks. He's a pretty good and active rooster. I'm glad I kept him. He flies in and out of the run all day. Checks on the 3 girls still living in the goat barn. Spends time with the 7 chicks that the mother hen left on there own. He basically tends to 3 different flocks.

Mike, I agree - that's a fine fellow, you have there. His tail reminds me of my roosters, who are also in a sad state of molt

Sounds like he is a good boy, too.

I am anxiously watching the four chicks that my broody is raising. They are just about at the six week mark, and I keep checking their faces for pink every day, lol. Only one of them has any obvious pink on the wattles, but three have tiny wattle bumps coming in. They're going to be boys............I just know there's no way I could have lucked out and gotten that many girls..........

Haven't been on this thread in a while, enjoying all the pictures! Mary, so sorry about your hawk attack.

Thanks Kelly. I know you've had more than your share of predator problems.

Forsaela will live on through her chicks. Four of her pullets and a cockerel are going to Jake within a week. I will be keeping the other four pullets and at least one cockerel from her, so she is gone, but will not be forgotten.
.........so Jake may or may not an invisible Icelandic flock right now, but I'll be posting some pictures of some that I know really exist!
