Icelandic Chickens

I got a couple pictures of my Icee chicks tonight. One of them has me concerned. She is very small, compared to the others, and she's less than two days younger than them. She also seems "slower" than the rest of the chicks. Like she's not quite as alert. I'm not sure if this is just her personality or if there's something wrong, as she eats and drinks alright and moves around okay. I put some vitamins in their water yesterday, and she perked up a little. I think I'll give them another dose and see if it helps her. If she makes it to adulthood and there still seems to be something wrong, then she will just go to my layer flock instead of the breeder flock.

She is terribly sweet. She loves to come sit on my foot and she's tamer than the others about being picked up - another thing that worries me.

Quote: Yes, many predator problems here too. My dog has been running off a fox for me lately. So far, so good, but I'm worried as it keeps coming back.

I'm sure Jake will love having those babies!

Duplicate.......so I'll post that pic of Eyja's weaned chick...............be nice Kelly!

Lovely pullet!

Maybe someone could visit Jake and take pictures of his Icelandics. Then we will know they really exist.

Guess I could have this past week. We drove to Niagara Falls (Canada) for a conference and spent most of the drive in Michigan - UP and down to the Canadian border by Port Huron. I also had my good camera with me. Missed opportunity!

All are welcome ! Easy to find.

I need to get 3 young turkeys out of the growout pen, so the young Icelandics will show up easier. And now that it is cooling down add a couple more roosters to the freezer camp.

Thursday I will meet Mary in Flint and get some of her treasures !

I am really looking forward to it !

We had temps here yesterday and today in the low 30s, fall is here and cooling down fast ! I am winterizing the pens this week, and hoping for a few gift days of Indian Summer. This was the year without a summer here, too cold for the tomatos to bear and ripen fruit, 40 plants and not a single ripe one picked. Same for my sweet corn. I sure amnot happy at all with this global warming !

Meanwhile life goes on, of the last little hatch got five pullets and two cockerals !

Best ration this year. The previous hatch is 3/4 cockerals ! It will be a crowded rooster growout pen. I do have 3 very pretty dark ones, two showing quite a bit of Bluing. The others are Isi lookalikes. Which isnot at all bad.

Mary is bring one of her young guys, he has been on here, I am getting ready to get out of here early on thursday to meet them just ouside Flint on Thursday morn. I will be there even if it snows. Hoping it doesnt , they have a long drive beyond Flint.

They are looking beautiful

I've had one of mine and another from shipped Icelandic eggs that stayed smaller for quite awhile. Eventually they grew up to be the same size and healthy. Hoping this is the case for your little cutie!

Good to know. Thank you! They are all wonderful to have. I checked them this morning, and I'm 95% sure I have three boys and one girl. The darkest boy looks like he may go the BB duckwing route. The white is a boy, so I think I got the first white male from your flock

He's a brave little thing. The third male is getting some blue and could end up mottled. He's also got an impressive topknot, which I just love.

And, here is a random picture of my chocolate chick. He's getting some rust on his shoulders.

He wasn't sure what to think of my camera.
