for the development!

Mike, -7 F tonight and tomorrow's high is 2 F........no one will be going out tomorrow!

Here is Eldur and his "harem" out on the clear patch of ground in front of the house on Monday.....when we had a high of 36 F......Spring, Spring, where for art thou Spring?

I have to laugh about my roosters. They are the undisputed leaders of the flock - so long as the ladies say it's okay. I watched my head roo court one of my hens today, and she wasn't in the mood. She gave him "the look", and he settled down pretty quickly. Love my chickens.

Got some pictures today. Please excuse the rose branches. My birds love to hang out in them.

Shy little Sky. You can see the light brown dusting on her front, in this.

My silver boy that was struggling last week. Can't really see his mottling in these.

Over exposure, sorry.

And the two sisters, Summer and Autumn. They're hard to get close to if they think you're trying to grab them. I love their shape.

Hello everyone! I figured it was about time to actually post. I just finished reading all of this forumn (it took 2 weeks!) I have 2 hens and 2 cockerels that I have had for a few months and 21 eggs in the incubator. I am loving the vareity of these birds. I am new to chickens because I have lived in apartments a lot. I am really looking forward to having many more! I enjoyed reading through this thread and I love how all of you are committed to the preservation of this landrace for future generations!

Thats one pretty youngster !

Where are you located? Here in MI its for sure winter now, we had -12 this morning, no beach party tonight.

Lot of serious folks here on preserving the purity of the breed. The Icelandic Chicken may very well be the purest breed in the world. There are several that may be older but none that have been kept as pure as they are.

Welcome to the thread and the breed !

Thanks for the welcome. I live in a town called west Texas but I grew up in your neck of the woods in Grand Rapids Michigan. Its pretty cold here right now too. 25 degrees and tonight it will be in the teens. The grass is still green so they are out doing what they love. Foraging. I am having issues with posting more pictures but I will keep trying. I have a pair from 2 different lines so I have good diversity.
