Icelandic Chickens

Hi Laurie!

Sad news tonight. I had to put down one of my chicks. He started hopping several days ago, then stopped walking today and was lethargic and choking. So DH helped me take care of him. I hate losing one of my babies :(

Red!

Other Mary, Eldur is one great looker! His son Hraun, has also lost all of his tips of his comb this winter....nobody was left untouched from the cold this year, even my rose combs lost some of their little tips. Still have snow more than knee-deep in some places, so I am looking forward to when Spring gets here. Forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday is more snow

Oh, sorry you are getting more snow. I pointed someone else from MN your way for Icelandic hatching eggs.

So... I'm a little bummed. Out of my 3 chicks I hatched, I got al roosters. They are about 9 weeks old. I know this is an insane question, but does anyone have any pullets they are wanting to get rid of?

ace, I'm too far away from you or I'd say "Come on over and get a couple". I always seem to hatch more cockerels than pullets. I only got 8 chicks from the EHAL.....we'll see what the ratio is on them. Glora is on two of her own eggs and I am excited to see what those will look like since she has plumage unlike any other Icelandic I've had. With five Icelandics on the nest or raising chicks, the egg numbers are dropping...

Yeah, Mike, you told me so.....

I had the camera out to take pics of the Barnevelder eggs that just arrived........so.........
green grass, a tinge of green showing in the trees and happy chickens......and chickens keepers!

Chickens look so beautiful against GREEN grass. Add a little sunshine and it must be like Heaven
Heaven is how I see our place! I'd love it if there was some sunshine in that picture.......but, not much of that happening here this week (as I'm sure you are aware

). The mommas and chicks have been confined to their inside coops since we've had the cold, damp weather and I know they are wanting some sunshine as much as we are!
