Icelandic Chickens

Elska is such a beauty. I love the colors in her collar :)

Mike, nice juvies! The one looks like she could end up spangled, similar to Flekka. Congrats on the pair!

I still have at least ten Icelandic eggs going strong in the incubator. I took three eggs from the nest of my broody Wyandotte today, as she's done setting, but I'm only certain of two being Icelandic. The third is being treated as a mixed breed, since I don't know if my Leghorn laid it or not :/ My broody has two chicks, one possible Icee, but again, they're just considered mixes, since I can't guarantee pedigree. I'm hoping to sell some of the Icee chicks not long after these eggs hatch, though. So if anyone on here is interested in driving clear out to Utah, let me know :) ;)

Broody count for me..so far... is 9 total.

Anna finished 4 Icelandic eggs started in the incubator for the Easter Hatchalong.
Gaela finished 2 Icelandic eggs started in the incubator for the Easter Hatchalong.
Gola finished 2 Icelandic eggs started in the incubator for the Easter Hatchalong.
Glora hatched 1 of her own Icelandic eggs.
All the above chicks are living together in the mobile coop.

Asta finished 2 Barnevelder eggs that I started in the incubator that were shipped from NC.
Gula finished 2 Cochin eggs that I got from my neighbor who had started them in an incubator.
Both of the above are still together with their chicks.

Glima pushed an egg, with a half-hatched chick, and squished a second chick so no chicks for her. Took three days to break her.
Gray, crested KY hen didn't hatch any from the shipped Barnevelder eggs I gave her. She broke after I removed the eggs.

Elska is number nine....I have no doubt she'll be fine with her now five eggs...

I'm anxious for work to be over so I can get home to my eggs. I have one chick that pipped and zipped this morning, then was wandering around the incubator yelling and inspecting everything before it was even dry. I hope I have a companion chick for it soon, otherwise I will see if my broody will take it. I love how lively it is :) Hooray
