Icelandic Chickens

Hello everyone!

Myself and a friend who also has a small farm have been discussing wanting to add some Icelandics to our flock. She just bought an incubator, so as soon as Whipoorwill Farm begins selling eggs we are going to get two dozen to hatch. Hoping to get a decent amount of pullets out of that! We are also adding Norweigan Jaerhons in the spring, so our flocks will be quite Scandanavian :) Glad I found this thread, the birds are just gorgeous!

and to the Icelandic thread!! Where are you located?

I got an almost decent picture of Elska's pullets (don't know if the eggs were hers or some one else"s but she hatched them and raised them) with the mottled cockerel hatched the last week of July. I was hoping they would be laying by the end of the month but I'm not so sure with this cold streak we are having.

Only Hvit (the white pullet) is getting color in her comb and wattles.....

I took a few pics yesterday.
I went out and saw Audun standing in the middle of grass and no other chickens around. I wondered what in the world is he doing there by himself?

I went farther out...still no one in sight......

then I looked closer...to the left...was Goa and her chick digging in the leaves under the lilacs...

To the right were some of the hens in the vegetable garden....

He was out in the open between the two groups, keeping an eye for them!!
I love my Audun!!

....even when he isn't in full plumage after his molt

Other Mary - Audun is not only beautiful, but a great protector! Worth his weight in gold, no doubt!
