Icelandic Chickens

Yeah, current temp 3F, feeling like -17F with the wind chill...we are under a wind chill advisory (-20 to -30F) until tomorrow at noon.....crazy pullet....she isn't even 7 months old yet and broody!

A month from now would have been perfect for the Easter Hatchalong.....I got some eggs for her sitting on the counter. I'll give them to her Friday morning if she is still serious after this cold.

@mlmddh I hope she knows something we don't.....but at 6+ months, I'm thinking not!!

We are under a wind chill advisory until Friday morning. I hope the cold ends soon, it's going to be a miserable time doing chores the next couple of days.

We hit a high of 8 today, Thursday is supposed to be the really cold day - 10

with insane wind chills and snow maybe. If it's THAT cold, I imagine it would have to be light, powdery snow.

I saw it, but I think you'd be safe if you were laying on the floor playing dead......try that and make sure to get a video of it for us!

So, I'm new to Icelandics and there are lots of things I don't know about them yet! Can they have a pea comb or straight comb? I'm assuming so since Audun seems to have a pea comb...I have some 3-week-old chicks and 4 are developing straight combs, but one seems to have a pea comb. Was thinking that maybe she was my only pullet, but maybe I'm mistaken? Hopefully! One of the straight-combed chicks has a substantially larger comb so far, so assuming that one is a rooster for sure!

You're going to love them!!

Here is a link to an article you will find information that should answer many of the questions you may have about Icelandic chickens. It is an interview with Johanna Hardardottir about Icelandic chickens and includes many pictures.
