@kathleens1979 It truly is a lovely day here in Illinois! My flock is out and enjoying the warm, southerly wind and sunshine!
Nice to see your flock!! They look like they have made themselves right at home!
Kathleen does that mean you didn't have a cold, snowy long, long, long, winter? It was 72 today and of course I missed it by sleeping most of the day. Rest of the week is supposed to be 40/20's and gusty winds. Feh!!
I am thinking that I need to change my avatar from the snow covered one......but am afraid I may jinx this nice weather we've been having......
The flock was all over the place yesterday enjoying the chance to dig in the leaf litter. I set 17 Icelandic eggs, 4 from a friend that got her flock from me and the rest from my flock. I hope some of mine decide to go broody and will raise them for me!
Thanks, Mike, I'll do that....then if the weather turns yucky again I can blame you!
My main concern is how many will be fertile. Audun will turn 5 the end of this month and he is the only male in with 16 hens/pullets. I know he is doing the deed but want to see what percentage of clears there will be.
I recently saw an ad for Icelandic hatching eggs for sale. Definitely reasonably priced but if Icelandics are so diverse in color, comb, etc. how can I tell if they are truly Icelandic Chickens?
