Icelandic Chickens

Sigrid, I see Mary write so much about you. It is wonderful to see people devoted to saving the breed. I will be joining you in the venture as well. I got 18 eggs from Lyle and have 11 chicks as a result. They are 6 and 7 days old today! At some point in time I would like to get some of the other lines as well. Is there any history you could share or your knowledge of the Icelandics? My email is [email protected]

my name is Andy White and I live in Fredericksburg Texas. Thanks so much Sigrid!

Mary, I've been following your thread and decided to finally post and let you know how much I've learned and how much I appreciate the work people like Sigrid, and therefor, you, are doing to save this rare breed of the world poultry population. When I first read of the variety of colors, combs and diversity of the Icelandics, I thought of Appaloosa horses. They don't "breed true" when it comes to color either, you never know what you're going to get, which is much of the appeal of the breed, variety. Much outcrossing makes most of the modern day Apps very different from their ancestors. Many will say these are "improvements" of the breed......some will disagree. Hopefully, this will not happen to the wonderous Icelandic chickens. It's great to know they have such strong advocates looking out for them.

Keep up the good work!!
