Kathy, What do you use to check humidity?

I know you asked Kathy, but here's what I do. You know those hairs on the back of your neck that become part of your hairdo as you age? Well, if those are frizzy, I know the humidity is good. Works like a charm.

Michelle.......adorable babies - quite the variety you have!

Jake.......weather conditions is why I didn't get any chicks from Mary for the longest time. We get extremely hot here in the summer and my first coop didn't have much shade. My 2nd coop now has a good amount of shade, so the conditions are right for them. (and they did fine through Mary's summer last year)

Definitely get the Spot Check, it's worth every penny. And if I can still hatch 23 chicks with 3 power outages, yours can hatch just fine too.

Laree.....so sorry about the turkey eggs. What a bummer!

My first Icelandic chick hatched yesterday from Mary, ( looks like 2nd picture of AKMichelle's) anyway hatched by the broody, but found it last night about 6:00 and looked like it was dead about a foot away from the nest, not sure whether it climbed out of the nest, or was kicked out , but I picked it up ,rubbed it a few times, and seemed to be some life there, brought it to the house and put in the bator to warm up, checked on him about every 20 minutes, and just took him out to the brooder with a keet that had kept him company last nite, looking good right now, but still nothing more under the two broodies, but hopefully more todayor tommorrow!!!

Oldia, where are you at ??

If the weather hexed me I will try some more eggs, the nights have all been above freezing lately , and yesterday it got to 70 with sun, then over night we had a heavy frost !

So, I am ordering the Brinsea thermometer, and if I dont get at least a dozen these hatches I will try again. I want a dozen or more to go into winter with.

I am naturally cynical but trying to overcome that, we shall see what will be. Hoping the coffee holds out.

Tonight will make a couple middle of the night checks. I just ask for 4-5 chicks from each set. Come on guys, I know that you can do it !

I am in SW Iowa, this batch of eggs, my first from Mary, the eggs looked good(at least no cracks, or broken) I didn't candle until lastweek then found out that all but two were scrambled, so far this is the only one hatched, got another set from Camelot Farms, that I put under a broody, but so far nothing there
