Icelandic Chickens

Cute critter Mary, every farm needs some.

Another one hatched, not looking too good, but Speedy appreciates the company, I hope it makes it through the night. One more pipping for sure, the two have moved the eggs around so I am not sure where the other pipped one is, I will be sitting up late, then take a nap on the couch just to make sure the temps are alright. Interesting that a 1/4 of this set was ahead of hatch day almost 24 hours early.

If you want to know the gender... The tails of male water turtles tend to be relatively long and tapered, but thick at their base. The tails of females are generally short and stubby. The bottom of their shells differ as well.. a concave bottom generally indicates a male and a convex bottom a female..

(I've had more than just birds.... the stories my mother could tell you... LOL)

too bad the poor thing is being so shy..... can't see what colors if any there are on the head and legs.. Usually tortoises and land turtles have more of a dome shell and water turtles have a flatter shell..

When my last two hatched, I thought they would both die, they both had been shrink wrapped and I had to help them out alot. At first all they would do was lay on there backs and peep. The black one had both layers of membrane glued over his eye and a large piece on his back. So I dipped him in a small dish of water and eventually with the help of my two younger brothers we got the membrane off.

.They both were still seemed extreemly week, so I lightly wrapped each one in a damp rag. Did a TON of praying and went to bed. The next morning... mayger improvement! They were still a little week on there feet but I moved them to the brooder. After that everthing has been uphill up to now
