Oh! So you're the one that does that. Is that when you put them in lockdown that you move them into cartons?

For those of you with "upright" hatching experience... What do you think about hatching directly in an egg tray like this one?

I have 23 turkey & 8 blue copper marans due for lockdown Wednesday night and to avoid roller derby, am considering moving the eggs into the egg tray for lockdown & hatching.. They have been on their sides up till now...

Thoughts?

My box of Icelandics from Kathyinmo is still MIA.... I sure hope that it wasn't caught in some tornado related delay...

Jake....what's goin' on?

Michelle.....yes, I take them out of the turner and put them in cartons at lockdown. (I don't cut the bottoms out like Kathy does) Not only do I have better hatch rates this way, but it contains the mess better as well.

Thebirdguy.....I'd cut it into smaller sections if you can. My only concern would be there's nowhere for the chicks to rest after they hatch. You see how Kathy's has space around the edges for the chicks?

Daria.......Eggs up to a week old will still be fine. After a week they start to lose some of their viability for hatching.

tazcat......Oooooh, ducklings - I so want ducklings but they are sooooo messy!
