Those darn Silkies........... honestly, I have FOUR broody Silkies now, BESIDES the 2 that already have chicks! One stole all the eggs from the others and had 24 eggs under her!

With temps being what they are its perfect shipping weather, and time doesn't matter much until you get past 10 days! you are going to do great!

Not anymore they aren't.............. I took them away from her and put them in the incubator.

She is now in the NellaBrooder on 6 eggs. I have 2 NellaBrooders FULL of broodies on eggs! It's a wonder I have any eggs at all to collect around here. Sheeeeesh..........

I don't think a Silkie would do well brooding Icelandic chicks. Icelandics would be too wild for my mellow girls.

That looked kind of complicated. It would give me the chance to trash the barn again with the chop saw and table saw and that is always fun. My big old repurposed reptile cage works great for me though. Probably should leave well enough alone! But, I could build two or three stacked brooders in the space one takes up now. Hmmm

They are really handy, inside I am using totes now, but have a bigger one outside, if I hatch anymore in July I will use it right after the totes, I am moving this month, 12 miles away but will have a proper chicken house, and room for outside brooders.

My Four amigos are doing well, and this morning the next set goes into lockdown. The weather has moderated, next door are some daffodils blooming and the lilac leaf buds are about to open. I think that next year any shipping will be done in May. Too iffy here .

I saved that link because I want 2 of those units but are going to beef them up, they would be great for trios.

Moved the four into a new tote, all looing good, and eating,

moved next set from Kim into the hatcher, in egg cartons, temp at 100 F and 65% H.

Hoping for good things !
