Icelandic Chickens

Mary you're an Angel !

I am glued to the six watching them grow, the 3 chipmunk amigos all have beautiful wing barring already on a soft brown base, the one I call the 'little wheaten' is a soft beige color, really curious about that one. And the white chested black is its own special pattern, I havent a clue what it will be, the newest and littlest dark chipmunk has much wider dark band on its head and back then the 3 older ones, as I said, way better then Forest Gumps box of chocolates !

I need Kellys eye now to pick out the roos, not a trace yet of a comb , and tons of attitude in all.

You must have had your girls on overdrive to lay that many eggs!!

What kind of chocolate did you want me to send you???

I've got 2 pheasants out so far... 1/2 dozen are pipped.. This is my first time with pheasants but from what I hear, they are fast movers & growers like the Icelandics.. Sure are tiny little things!!!

The sun is out after two days+ of rain/sleet.. never actually turned to snow but sure tried hard! We have a robin that has built a nest in a bush right outside the boys bedroom.. started setting today.. Does that count as my first broody??

I shipped a box of turkey poults to North Carolina yesterday on a trade with another bycer.. sent them Express, guaranteed delivery by 3 pm today.. They LOST them!! The last scan was yesterday afternoon leaving Idaho and they haven't been able to find them since 3 EST when I called to ask where they were.. I'm thinking they went to the Bermuda triangle with the Icelandic eggs from Kathy that still have not appeared... Now if this was a tv show, after their siesta in the triangle, the turkeys would arrive full grown and the eggs would show up hatched, grown and laying.. if only!!!

Did you want Lindor Balls, Ghirardelli or Dove Chocolates? I think my deal with Mary was that I would send her 10 lbs of chocolate and she would send me 2 dozen Icelandic chicks... If you are interested in a chocolate for chooks trade, just let me know what kind of chocolate you like the best and what kind of chicks you have to offer.. I'm sure we can work something out...

Wow this thread has gotten interesting. The girls are threatening each other with hatching egg or chick shipments and the guys are bribing us with chocolate!

Kelly you may be right on those pics, these might be brooding eggs by the time that I get to them with the move and all. I do know where the camera is though. I think.

I need to set up a pretty little stage with flowing cloths and them all lined up in a pretty pose. After I get that my address will probably be the nearest rehab center.

The little 'wheaten' has white wing feathers, and the black with white chest also has white feathers here and there. To me the Icelandic chicks beat chocolates any day !

Birdguy.....(Shawn, right? LOL I'm sooooo bad with names) Any news on the turkey poults? Did they find them?

Jake.....you're moving too? BTW, I want your horses. Unfortunately where I live, we have NO pasture, so it would be really expensive.

Lost one of my Ameraucana chicks to a rat last night. They were safe and sound in their brooder, or so I thought. A rat tunneled into the barn thru a drain channel in the barn floor, tore the hardware cloth away from one of the brooder vents, climbed in, snatched a chick, dragged it out the same way it came in, and left it dead about 20 feet away from the barn.

Today Michael is going to pour cement in the drain channel and I will staple the hardware cloth back in place. I will also staple some to the outside so they would have to tear through two sections of hardware cloth. Hopefully we won't suffer any more loses. This is a first for me, chick loss to a predator!

After finding the dead chick, I tried to move the goats and emus to a pasture and they revolted, running all over the unfenced front of our property. My neighbor's chicken and waterfowl killing dog was out running loose. I was sure I was going to witness the carnage. I ran back in the house and woke Michael up to come help. We got them all secure but it was so scary. My animals never left my property but hers were running loose untied.
