I was right on Baldur (Big Boy), let's hope Lil Sis also lives up to her "hatchday name"!

snaphu !

Great avatar, and I relate to the handle, big time !

Erika is a gorgeous gal, did you get your start from Lyle?

Mary a third of the chicks you sent had that partial chipmunk pattern, 3 became beautiful wheatens one with blue undercarriage and some across the back.

This morning, before sunrise I was looking at the little roos in the brooder on the sunporch and admiring the largest one who is staying when Blau crowed out in the chicken house, so not to be outdone and to be courteous and reply the little guy stretched out and up, put his wings out and answered ! It came out much more of a chirp then a crow but he did his best

I got my "start" directly from Jóhanna Harðardóttir in Iceland... Erika was the first to hatch last July 8, 2010, so I named her Erika the Red, as she was the first Icelandic in Canada. Jóhanna told me Erika's mother's name is Rauðhetta which translates to Red Riding Hood

this new chick is the first egg of Erika's to hatch and it is red also, I'm thinking I should stick with *red* theme for her name? any ideas?

Mary, I could use TONS of advice on how to start marketing Icelandics in Canada

I have a few ideas... I'm going to join a local poultry fanciers group, and I also belong to several Icelandic clubs here in Canada. So I should probably start to advertise in their newsletters??

I wouldn't "market" them so much as I would seek out people interested in rare breed preservation. Once the hit the hatcheries, all hope of preserving the breed as "pure" will be lost. JMHO

The Icelandic chicks survived the horrid heat and our first few thunderstorms. I am hopeful they will be good desert dwellers!
