I have to put netting on any pen the Icelandics are in. They LOVE it up high, as Michelle is experiencing.

Love the pictures and story, Michelle! Congratulations on the egg, too. Hope you are now getting Icelandic eggs!

Michelle......it could be. Briet lays a bright white egg, but Luna lays a creamy white one.

All before 11AM today I have done the following:

Made lunches for DH and oldest DS so they could leave for a Boy Scout trip.
Made a Strawberry Rhubarb crisp. (It's really yummy too)
Had my coffee, breakfast and looked on BYC for a bit.
Talked to Mary.
Painted 1 wall of my youngest DS room red. Yup he wanted all his walls bright lipstick color red. We compromised to 1 wall because Mommy HATES red walls. The other walls will be tan color. I painted the 1 wall that I don't have to look at red - so I'd have to walk all the way into his room and turn around to see it.

Cleaned up from painting and took all the tape off.
Washed the dog. This extra UNPLANNED step was due to said child "helping" me while I was painting by piling dirt on the dog. He got sent to strip down, not touch ANYTHING and get in the shower while I took care of the dog.

Started a load of wash.
Cleaned up dishes from the crisp.

Now I'm sitting down, checking in here before I have lunch. At least the rest of the day I'll be relaxing by the pool at my mom's house.

Oh, and I forgot to add that I got attacked by my broody too. One of her chicks was limping, so I was inspecting the leg and she flew at me to nail me in the arm. I just went back up to check, and the chick is fine and thankfully not limping any more.

How many eggs do your Icelandic girls lay each week. Mine average about 3. Will they do better when it's cooler outside???

I think mine do better than that. I'll try to keep track for a couple of weeks. Today I found a clutch of 17 eggs under one of the goat sleeping platforms! Minus roosters and broodies I have 14 Icelandic laying hens.

So, regarding the 17 eggs I found. I had gathered a few for someone else who now needs to wait a bit. With the "found" eggs I had thirty total. I SET THEM IN THE INCUBATOR!

Here was my rationale. I have no idea how long the eggs have been there so I can't sell them. I can't eat them for the same reason, plus I yelled at Jake for making an Icelandic egg omelet. To eat them would be hypocritical. I also figured I would have more broodies who would be needing pre-incubated eggs since mine are spoiled and no one has to sit for three weeks around here. I plan to keep all the pullets from the 21 chicks being raised by broodies right now so I really don't need more chicks. Plus, I have ten in the other incubator now too. So, on September 21 there is a Poultry Sale and Exchange near me. I will take all the incubator chicks there and sell them. Chicks are very popular at the Exchange. If they don't sell I am not bringing them home. You can donate anything that doesn't sell and the proceeds go into a fund for people who have animals that need vet care and they can't afford it. The volunteers sell the leftovers after the sale. So, whatever hatches out of the forty in the brooder goes to the Exchange with me in September!

Good one, Mary! Hey, you are really good at rationalizing. REALLY good!

SHEEESH, I suppose that means I have to stop eating my Icelandic eggs and incubate them now.

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.
