Icelandic Chickens

Kathy. At least you can catch something in your trap. I've lost 2 barnevelder pullets in the past few weeks and still don't know what happened. I know it happened during the day and it climbed a 6 ft fence. No feather trail, no marks in the wood posts on the fence. I think it's a bobcat, but I'm not positive. Whatever it was goes for the neck because one of my marans was attacked the same day I lost the 2nd barnevelder and it tore the skin off her neck. (she had ascitis, so she was pretty heavy with all that fluid in her) I went and bought a trap so I wouldn't keep stealing Mary's and it's been set since Thursday. I've caught NOTHING!

Congrats Other Mary on the new egg from your own breeding!

Shawn......rub it in now. Please do tell how you avoid getting sprayed by the skunk. I didn't come out so lucky myself.

Coon #22 in the trap this morning. Now, I need to figure out how to finish this job. Cody won't be here til tonight. Hmmm, now to see if I can figure out how to even put the clip of bullets in!

On the other hand, I think I will just leave it be.

I would like to have a guardian dog. I just don't have the time or patience to train one.

Oh Kathy! That is awful. Possums are UG-LY!

Yeah Shawn and NotAFarm.

My chicken picking skills are improving and H2B was so impressed he wants to video it

There were 7 in the tree last night. The Speckled Hen, Cyn, was almost invisible. I didn't even see her, Tom did.

Yesterday a raven was sitting on the roof of our shed/coop. All the roosters were really cranky about it too. Our LGD gets here around the end of September. He will only be about 8 weeks old but they grown and learn fast.

I thought about that too and then I decided if I make the time for a few months I will have piece of mind for years.

Then if the silly birds want to hang out in trees I don't have to care. The dog will keep them safe. Even though an owl can fly into the tree I'm not sure it will with a barking dog at the base of said tree.

This little chick hatched in the incubator yesterday. OMG he is the most colorful little Icelandic chick I have seen. He is predominantly a fiery orange color and even his legs are slate and orange. ( I know Kelly. I see the comb

) I just noticed the colors are a little washed out from the flash. He is much orangier. Yes, Laree that's a real word.

I can't really say because all my Icelandics run together but I do have some black hens with light neck feathering, four in fact. So what you are saying it that this color/pattern is not "orangier"?

Beautiful chicks BTW.
