Icelandic Chickens

We had a big ol storm too--dust storm from noon to 3 ish, and then super-windy thunderstorms all night.

Buffy, my wild Icelandic, looked like she wanted back in the coop.

Isbar babies were fine! But I found out that the area they are in floods! I sure wish the fools that built this house had grading it so the the water drained away from the house instead of toward to the house. Our excavator said if we ever tried to get permits for remodel, addition, etc, they would make us have the whole area around the front part of the house regraded in the right direction. Luckily we are planning no such thing.

Addition? As if that house isn't big enough for you and Michael.

Glad the Isbar babies are fine.

Michael keeps talking about closing in that front patio for me and making it a bedroom for when the stairs become too much for me. I am still ok since I try to limit the number of trips up and down I make in a day. He has mentioned moving the laundry to the garage and adding a shower to the main floor bathroom for me. It is sweet of him to be thinking about making accommodations but I am just fine for now. Hopefully it stays that way. I told him I would also be fine with a twin bed in my office if it comes to that. I could always disguise it to look like a sofa if I put it sideways against the wall. Plus that would be one less side to fall out of!

Oh I have seen some really pretty "day beds" that look like a bench or sofa, but fold out to make a nice bed.
maybe that would work?
I better call dad in NorCal & see how he is after this storm you had.
We worry about him there all alone.

Reporting that all my Icelandic are just fine, no effects whatsoever after getting into the tater tower & eating evey potato leaf they could.
never seen birds gobble food so fast, except when I throw them bread.
Little boogers.

I got a call from a neighbor out to the farm today... seems a old red buick stopped earlier.. some people got out, snatched one of my chickens and left!!! I sure hope they are really hungry and that they took one of the extra roosters!! I can't believe that someone would just steal a chicken in broad daylight... I'll have to try and figure out tomorrow which one they took... Between the turkeys and the chickens, I have over 80 that are free ranging during the day and then I pen them at night.. too hard to count them since they won't hold still

I just make sure nothing is left outside...

You all have sure been having your problems while I am away ! Sorry to hear about of all of them

I am on the last leg, hoping to be in Cusic tonight. Yesterday coming north from Boise had rain all the way, along with long steep grades but it all went well. 2 lane 95 is sure a big difference from the interstates but its incredible views all of the way, I saw a zillion places I would be at home in all along the way but it sure increased in Mt and Id !!

The Icelandics delivered to Larry and Mary Robinson in Boise have a great pen , right off their main deck, in the winter they can see Elk come down to browse right up to the deck ! Its 8' high inside and has a 4' high covered run, the chicken house is roofed over, he got two pullets and I will get him more next year, the pullets have 4 roos for company. 3 have the black breasted duckwing pattern, no two that look alike, and the other is another Isi look alike, from the June 1rst hatch. It was well worth the major detour to get them to their new home.

Life is good and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !
