Where in Northern CA is your dad?

Sorry, been shopping for 2 days!
Hate shopping!!!!!!!!

Dad is in Lake County, he had a Pheasant Farm...and raised Emus.
Mom died in April, sudden infection of her pacemaker...Dad gave all his birds away & called it quits.
He gave away 11 Emus, lots of Emu chicks, a bunch of pheasants and all his chickens, quail & partridge.
Rosecomb Ryan got (I think 8 ) of Dad's Emus.
Our "other" property is rented and not far from Dad.
So we make the trip back & forth alot.

Just wanted to report that sweet Blind Lucy is gone. I took her to the vet for humane euthanasia this morning. She had not been eating or drinking well for a couple of weeks and was very thin and frail. I tried hand feeding her but it wasn't working. She stopped talking and stood with her face in a corner most of the time. She had taken no food or water for the last three days and this morning when I opened her coop she was standing with her head on the floor. Not wanting her to die that way, and not knowing if she was suffering, I made the decision that her death would be gentle. I am sad, but in a strange way relieved. It had been painful to watch her struggle for quite some time.

Please don't post condolences. Reading and responding to them would be too much. I know you care. In Lucy's honor just go hug a chicken today. Or bring one in the house and let it eat raisin bread on the kitchen counter.

Blind Lucy, circa June, 2009.

Nice to hear from you, Jake! Sure do miss you!

The new larger pen for the Icelandics is working well. Ya, real well......... the door was ajar yesterday when I got home from work. ALL the adolescents were out and went to their old pen and tried to get in. Those little boogers are hard to catch, too! Anyway, tonight when I got home they were all safely tucked in. Of course, they were arguing over who gets the highest roost. Tyler added another roost very high up. Silly birds..... I just adore them.

I'm off tomorrow, so hope to accomplish something around here.

to you all. Hope you are all well.

Kathy, I thought you already got everything done! Did they mess everything up already?

I just added eight more Icelandic chicks to the five that hatched on Monday. Can't ship any of them

between the early hatchers and the late hatchers. I am hoping the local lady wants them all. I did hatch out one interesting one though. It is black, not dark, BLACK. It has a little white on it's front. I have hatched out dark chicks that ended up black but never hatched one that started out black. It's legs and feet are black too. The other little guy is blue and orange.
