Anyway, I made my coop on the small side to keep my addiction in check.

But, if I were to find another shed just like it I could shove them together and remove the interior walls.... HELP Me Now Someone...

Kelly, I don't think I can be your friend anymore. You are a bad influence. So if we meet for coffee this week this will be me:

I have an announcement, of sorts ....
Today my husband and I walked around the grounds, trying to figure where to make cuts. We have so many beautiful chickens. Initially I was the one going overboard on buying new breeds. THEN, he started in .... well, sorta ..... he quit stopping me from it.

We went round and round saying we could not cut this one and that one. In the end, the last cut was the most difficult.

We have decided to work on the old Heritage breeds here, and we must cut out the Icelandics.

They have been such a joy to have. We have loved every minute of having them. If anyone here is interested in continuing on this preservation effort, I am offering my birds. I have 3 males and 3 females. Please PM me if you are interested.
Sadly,
Kathy

Just thought I'd pop in with an Icelandic update.

As the loyal followers probably suspected, Lukka is still raising her 12 week old "baby." I think from the looks of things it is a boy, which makes perfect sense.

Tonight was the first night all four new babies and three Moms had to sleep in the big coop. I locked them out of their baby coops.

The Divine Miss M settled into a nest box with her baby.

Skye abandoned her two babies and went up to the highest roost. Her two babies settled in with Judge Judy and her baby on a lower roost. The dark one is is Judy's baby and the others are Skye's. One is screaming at real Mama to get back down. (Probably a boy too)

My three oldest pullets, from the original Lukka and Henna eggs, started laying recently. I collected 14 eggs and incubated them. 10 developed but one was a double yolker that quit. The remaining nine are developing nicely on Day 5! I haven't raised babies in a brooder for awhile since it was the summer of the broody around here. It should be an experience.

If the second test batch does well I may have hatching eggs to share before they quit laying for the winter!

I'll keep you posted.

Mary

p.s. Hope you found homes for your Icelandics Kathy! That would be a super way for someone to get a flock started.

Love the pictures Mary. Hope all is going well for you. I know moving is a royal pain. It seems to take a while to get all settled in and comfortable.

I can not believe that Lukka! She is just a crazy woman! Take that baby away from her! I tell ya, she ain't gonna give him up!

I still have all 6 Icelandics. Sure hope someone is interested.

Look at those hot "babies". (And Lukka too) It's been so darn hot here this week. At least by this weekend it will cool down and give the chickens a break.

When I went to close up my broody last night (and the night before) the babies weren't even under her. It was so hot, they didn't want to be under her. They were just all sprawled out.

Oh and Kathy, Lukka hasn't beat me yet. The egg Mary thought was Lukka's was one of her pullets that just started laying and a double yolker. So I'm still in the running to beat Lukka!

I wonder what I win if I beat her? Ducklings?
