Just thought I'd pop in with an Icelandic update.
As the loyal followers probably suspected, Lukka is still raising her 12 week old "baby." I think from the looks of things it is a boy, which makes perfect sense.
Tonight was the first night all four new babies and three Moms had to sleep in the big coop. I locked them out of their baby coops.
The Divine Miss M settled into a nest box with her baby.
Skye abandoned her two babies and went up to the highest roost. Her two babies settled in with Judge Judy and her baby on a lower roost. The dark one is is Judy's baby and the others are Skye's. One is screaming at real Mama to get back down. (Probably a boy too)
My three oldest pullets, from the original Lukka and Henna eggs, started laying recently. I collected 14 eggs and incubated them. 10 developed but one was a double yolker that quit. The remaining nine are developing nicely on Day 5! I haven't raised babies in a brooder for awhile since it was the summer of the broody around here. It should be an experience.
If the second test batch does well I may have hatching eggs to share before they quit laying for the winter!
I'll keep you posted.
Mary
p.s. Hope you found homes for your Icelandics Kathy! That would be a super way for someone to get a flock started.
