Icelandic Chickens

Wow, congrats. I have two extras right now and I need to find them new homes too. It is just crazy in the chicken yard with too many roos.

I wish I could get down to a dozen roosters! I just got rid of 3 pens of roosters (total of 24 gone now). No, I take that back .... I don't want to get rid of too many more, just another 10 or so, and I will be good with 20 adult roos (and about 20 growing out now). I am talking different breeds though, not all one breed.

Well .... announcement here .... we did tons of cleaning, rearranging, and moving the past 3 days. We were able to keep an open pen for the Icelandics. YUP, they are here to stay!

That is about how I do it, too. Although, my big fluffy butt English Orps, I have 2 roos with 7 girls. My Icelandics are another exception, with 3 of each in one pen. I believe I will get rid on one roo, though. That is hard with these, because they are sooooooo beautiful to look at!

I think Kola might have produced her first egg today. I can not think it could be anyone else. Because of all the moves we made, we did not let the chickens out to free range today ..... except the Icelandics and Delawares, because they remained in their same pens (thus, they knew where home was). Well, when gathering eggs from the Delaware coop, there was a WHITE egg. I know Kola went into the Del pen a few times .... roaming around all over. We (DH, DD, and me) looked at the mystery egg and smiled, and said at the same time, "It's Kola!" I had not put a nest in their pen, and did notice that in 3 corners it appears someone was making a nest.

Candled my Icelandic eggs just now with my new mini maglight for candling, and I've got eight little fetuses growing and bouncing around, woohoo!
