Icelandic Chickens

My Mediteranean ancestry.

The O'Levis came to Ireland from Spain, then they were the HaLevys and DeMartinez's et als.

I did dream of feather legged chicks though, will pick up a large dog crate for them next week, Great Dane size. Plastic cover the top and sides and get some turkey starter. Just happen to have the heat lamps.

These yonguns will be real house pets

I will practice my inhouse sprouting for them.

Today I put the shed posts in the holes and true them up, hoping the rain holds off, rain and snow coming tomorrow, tis the season.

Jake is one sly fellow! Gotta watch out for him.

He's going to be socked in with snow and only Icelandic chicks to play with. Those chicks are sure to be lap chickens. Now if we can just get a guarantee on the pics.

Not unless it's gay. I only have Icelandic roos except for my juvenile Isbar cockerel who is in a locked, and covered yard. Nope. I assume these are Isi's babies since he has the feathered shanks. I run a tight ship, except when it comes to Stella.

I think they were assuming me. No, this baby did NOT hatch from my eggs - Lukka is sitting on my 3 barnevelder eggs, which are pure.

Just a weird coincidence how much it looks like a barnevelder - minus the shank coloring and shank feathers.

Ahh, Duh!

I am more and more interested in their colors now, that dark one looks gorgeous, really ! The two yellow ones could be anything , and I am sure will be. Time will tell !

I am going up to Ione shortly and will see what the measurements are for the crate, I have all the material here to make a sturdy table for one, can do that over the weekend.

And, it WILL be setting just to the right of the puter table where I can see them as I sit here, by spring they will be the tamest ones ever.

Mary was there just the 3 of them ? I am glad Isi is the sire, my Isison may be carrying the feathered legs too, I hope.

Actually Kelly when the snow comes also will have a kitten and two older cats for company, the chicks will have a real warm cuddly family ! Course I only have to wade about six yards to the critter shed to the Goats and the adult Icelandics !! A busy few days coming up, before a busy few weeks.

Just the three with fuzzy legs. I probably wouldn't have even noticed since I was shipping them out, but the feathering was much heavier than I have seen so it definitely caught my attention. The others are getting boxed up now for trips to OK and MI. This is my last shipping this season. I will put a heat pack and Gro-Gel in with them and say a little prayer.

Anybody that I know in MI ??

I am sure glad that you checked them out closely !!!!

I am excited already, this is a trait I have been wanting as everyone knows, I will see next winter if it is a big advantage over clean legs or no. This winter will be here way before they can be ready for it, so they will be house chickens.

Every home needs a few house chickens !

This has been a great week for me, getting the material for the shed and getting started on it, won a winter coat in hunter orange for one of my pack goats, and now these little BEAUTIES !

This breed is a huge fascination for me, there is just SO MUCH to learn about them.
