Icelandic Chickens

Did someone twist your arm behind your back to make you buy the raffle ticket? 'nuff said.

Lots of excitement in the Jail and Saloon coop nest boxes today. Michael bought meadow grass for the donkeys a couple of days ago. It is really nice and soft so I brought a huge lug of it up here and lined the nest boxes with it. The news has spread like wildfire! Everybody has taken a nestbox for a spin. Of course no one will lay an egg but that's a whole different story! Right Kelly?

Something tells me Diana the Diva will be getting nothing but coal from Santa this year. Maybe it was the pressure of making a calendar, it's so hard to have every hair in place every month for another shoot.

Yep - I'm eagerly awaiting Olive to lay. Her and Dusty are both 24 weeks now, surely an olive egger should be laying by now, right? I know the BR will take longer, so she gets some slack. I think the barnevelders have been talking to her too much.

Kathy - if you ever saw Mary's house, you would know that an inside chicken just isn't happening, unless it's in the oven. (yes Mary, I said that

Darn, I can not get a good picture of the color. Believe me, it is nice and dark olive!

Miss Olive was hatched on Halloween (from one of Wynette's eggs), so she is 23 weeks old (and so beautiful!)

After reviewing the pictures of the deceased chicks I think they were actually dead before they even got put on the plane. They didn't leave Sacramento until 7:00 p.m. and I left them at the PO at 10:16 a.m. I'll bet they got put outside on the pallets waiting for the truck to pick up and chilled and died. I say that because there were only two green poops visible in the box and the Gro-gel hadn't been touched. I put them on Grogel on Monday and the brooder had lots and lots of green poops. They were all huddled in a corner. I am so mad.
