Icelandic Chickens

Spent yesterday getting the chicken yard ready for winter. Moved my smaller movable coops up to the pop doors to give the flock a couple of sheltered areas to range in once the snow flies. It was too funny watching them figure out the new set-up

Audun spent lots of time going in and out and telling the girls things were fine......love that rooster!!! I also saw him jumping up and pulling berries from two Beauty Berry bushes and dropping them for the girls....but I didn't have the camera with me then. Why are they always doing cool things when I don't have the camera?!

I know, I'm Jonesin' to hatch some chicks, but like I said on the nydh thread, my wife would have a cow and cows are much harder to clean up after than baby chicks.

Maybe I'll be able to convince a few of you to send me some Icelandic eggs for the Easter hatch... and I can give the roos to Boston.

) I'll be more than happy to send you eggs for the Easter Hatch........assuming I don't have a dozen broody girls and no one laying!!!

I won't be doing the NYD Hatch either.......way too cold here for that....I'm feeling bad for Kleo and her two little ones, the wind yesterday had them struggling to stay by their mama. She spent most of the day inside with them. I told her (yes, I talk to my chickens...is that wrong?) I hoped she had learned a lesson not to brood babies that hatch out in the middle of October.

Well I've been getting a consistant 4 Icelandic eggs a day, amoung others.
I am very excited for the NYD hatch.
I have watched the two Ice Roo's doing their job all day long, since I have been out with them alot while finishing parts of the new coop.
I have been playing with the Hovabator genesis... learning the in's and out's... and also reading alot about the whole process so I can get it right

My cousin up here in Heber also has a bator. Im thinking I will see if I can borrow it. So I can set a hatch in another week or so.
Its a snowing again this morning. I havent ventured out to check the Icelandics this morning, but I can just picture them scratching around in the snow as they were a couple days ago.

Good morning all,

Its 16 here this morning, thats winter, we had snow here thurs, I am getting the shed framed, have to get some more lumber this morning, day is only forcasted for low 30s, so it needs to get done, hopefully over the week its going to warm up to the 40s. Got my hay in the other day for the goats, getting more chicken feed today. Slowly getting ready for winter, it will be.

Life is good and better with Icelandic Chickens and Pack Goats !

I am going up north to get 9 Icelandics from Jake's friend this afternoon. Its going to be a long trip for me, hope I will stay focused while driving.

I have something similar,
I ordered my Genesis from Incubator Warehouse... I ordered it with a digital Therm/Humi with a remote probe, Also within .1 degree.
Just so excited to hatch something.. But have another day until the breeds have been seperated for 10days. Then I will know the fertile eggs are pure and not cross.
But then I leave out of town for work for about a week. So will have my DW collect eggs and mark them.

Hens can stay fertile for 3 weeks. 4 weeks of separation is a safe bet for pure eggs.
