Icelandic Chickens

I was just out looking at mine, I have two of basic wheaten but with shadings of Blue, one darker then the other so I am keeping my fingers crossed for both of them.

Mary I may need to get some eggs from you in the future these are just too nice not to have in the flock.

Yes, Mike, I think the pairing is a good one. Funny to think that if Forsaela had not gone broody the first part of February, I would not have put her in with Falki to break her, and would not have stumbled upon what nice chicks they produce when she went broody a bit later in the spring. Sometimes the unplanned things turn out just wonderful!

How does that Van Zant song go? "....if you wanta see God laugh show Him your plans......"

Quote: I find the most amazing thing is the variety they throw. I hatched only two Icelandic eggs that did not come from that pairing and I know exactly which ones they are. Here are five juvies, all full siblings to each other and to the three pictured above.......none look alike...or look like their older siblings. The two from this group that the hawk got were different from any of these. Truly they are a genetic treasure!

They are so cool!!

Where can you buy the from??

That's where I got mine. They are so worth it!

So, on another note, my chocolate chick has some white coming in! I'll try to get a picture soon. The white is coming in on the wings, from what I can see, and looks like mottling. I can also see the little white earlobes now with clarity. If this chick is indeed an Icelandic, it's going to be so exciting! Whatever it is, it will be a looker.

Quote: Red, We will, of course, need to see pictures of it!

.......and speaking of pictures.......here is Forsaela with some of her latest group. This was Wed....Momma and all 9 were trying to cram into one nest box in the main coop. You can see the "overflow" in the box to the left and perch outside! Last night, she took back into the separate broody coop where they had more room....smart hen!
