Icelandic Chickens

Red, The first picture has me wondering about it....because of the wattles...how old are they now and when were those pictures taken? Any chance of getting a current picture with both of them in it?

On the bad news front.......Forsaela's youngest brood has only 2 pullets (one is blue and is pictured earlier on the bench) and 7 cockerels.........agghhhh!

On the good news front.....looks like some NotAFarm Icelandics will be traveling this fall!

Where ar NotAFarm Icelandics headed to this fall?

Mary, the pictures were taken less than a week ago. I think these juveniles are about ten weeks old, if I'm remembering correctly. They may only be nine weeks. Somewhere in there. I don't know if I can get a picture of them side by side anytime soon. Christina works her tail off day and night, and her place is somewhat of a drive from where I live. I'll see what I can do, though!

Snapped a couple of pictures of bath time the other day. My Icee babies are one week old, and already enjoying the goodness of dirt!

Wow, mine never do it out in the open like that. It's always next to the house, or behind a bush, next to a tree, etc...

Red, I love watching the broodies with their chicks in the dusting holes

Elska has weaned the NHs and they will lay side-by-side in one of the holes and just sit in there after dusting. It is like they are "hiding out" down in there! Many of my dusting holes are in the middle of the chicken yard. They seem to dig where the moles have tunnels so they are long and narrow. I'll have to see if I can get a pic one of these days.

.....maybe they'll make it over to Millersburg one of these days!

I'm working on creating more room for Icelandics. All non-Icelandic roos are headed to freezer camp soon. Followed by hens that I don't want to over winter. The plan is to only have Icelandic and Olandsk Dwarfs, (and peafowl and occasional turkeys)

Re my flock, I am 'between cameras' right now, debating over several, I do need to get it done and start getting some pics. I will have new chicks in several days and no camera ! Plus I want some more of Isi and his girls.

I have 2 of Bjorns sons that look like they are going to have blue on them ! Gradually shading darker. On wings and upper body. Need the camera.

I'm having camera problems too. I keep trying to take pictures of Jake's chicks but they always turn out blurry. Well, maybe its because they never slow down

Both hatches are non stop now, all over the place hunting grasshoppers. This is great because we are overloaded with them this year. I wish I could let them in the garden, but they'd help themselves to the tomatoes too. They're not greedy, they'd only take a couple bites out of each one when it gets ripe, but DH frowns on that.

I have a "pet and child" setting on my camera that takes pictures of fast-moving subjects. It's given me much cleaner images a number of times. I still get some blurring, but it works.

Mike, my chickens dust bathe wherever they please. They do like the moist dirt under our bushes and ground cover, but I've also seen them rolling around in the pile of leaves and seedpods that we had raked up in one spot in our yard. Notice I say had.

Too bad about the camera problems......you take lovely pictures....maybe it is just birds from Jake and belonging to Jake that are the trouble...

Red, I love how the chicks run in and out of the 2x4 wire! Very cute!
