Guess who hatched a baby?

Here are Hraun's babies (Eldur's son). I haven't gotten pictures of Hraun's girls yet, but the babies are cute. They were hatched from pullet eggs, so I am guessing either just one or two of the girls had started laying when I collected these 7 eggs. I got 3 buff, 2 broken chipmunk and 1 chipmunk. Guessing the buffs are from one of my white girls since there are two in there. My whites usually hatch out yellow, but I have had a least one buff before hatch. Not sure how they will look, since that one didn't make it to maturity.

Okay, I've got more pictures! Here are my three babies that were just weaned off. These are all from eggs from coldupnorth's flock and are ten weeks old. I'm just referring to them all as "she" right now, for lack of better knowledge.

This is Reika (wander) She's very shy and hard to get good pictures of. She looks like she could have some mottling, but she's also the one that I wondered about the spangling on.

You can see a little more of her mottling on the breast, here, even though it's dark.

Silfer (silver) By far the boldest of the three, and the one with the biggest crest.

Sky (cloud) She just kind of lives in her own little world.

And lastly, here's a picture of Ike, my chocolate boy. He's older than the other three by a month, I think.

Okay I lied, sorry. Here's a bonus of one of the chicks with mama last Thursday. They were discovering the wonders of pumpkin.

Very cute! I like the one in the center with the eyeliner and burnt orange color! Dibs!

My favorite.......what a silver beauty you have!

.......and love pictures of mommas and chicks!! Yum, pumpkin!

Mary one of my four new hatches has a patch of burnt orange on its back. The biggest one. They are now in their winter abode, a big quail cage in the basement. The smallest is still the darkest, no combs in sight other then a line where they will be. And no signs of crests, still hoping. But they are all going to be dark, of one color/shade or another. I am guessing the biggest one with the orange patch is a cockeral, we shall see.

Jake, Mine are changing so much! I'll have to get some new pictures soon.

Get it where you can!

I have seen mine up high, on top of the chicken house, even in low trees, they are ranging birds superb!

I started winterizing the pens, plastic on the wire, really cuts down the wind, and rain. It was raining when I got up yesterday, still raining when I went to bed and raining this morning. I think its been raining right through, I havent heard any let up. This weekend will be hanging a 100 watt light in all the pens, dont want any frostbit combs this year.

I hope this time next year to have a lot more rose combs in the flock.

Life goes on .

Jake, is your power reliable all through the winter? I don't know yet about the new place, but I frequently lost power at my old place after winter storms. I would be a bit concerned about possibly making them more susceptible to cold by adding heat that might not be there when the weather gets bad. Of course if your power is real reliable, that wouldn't be a worry. :)
