Icelandic Chickens

what can I say , chickens aren't good at math - go figure

They don't even think about how chicks are going to get down from the hayloft.

I will be setting only Icelandic eggs from my flock for the Easter Hatchalong! All 36 will start in the LG incubator and will, hopefully, be transferred to broodies.

Anna is definitely broody and I'm hoping she will be joined by at least two others in the next couple of weeks. Audun and Eldur are the only cocks here, are 4 and 2 respectively and both had some frost bite/freeze damage from our brutal winter. I have some concern that fertility may be low, but most of the eggs we've been eating show good fertility. We will see what candling shows at a week and then remove whatever is not developing.

It was a rather brutal winter, and it just doesn't want to end.

Quote: Greedy girl!

And of course Anna can handle more!

Anna has company!! Gola, a daughter of Forsaela and Falki, was sitting on the nest this afternoon and was still there at lock-up!

She growled and grabbed my hand when I moved her to take an egg. If she is anything like her mom, she will be a fierce mother. Now I just need two more......

No broodies here, but I'm getting eggs from both my young and old Icelandics. The old ladies are laying better than the younger ones!

NotAFarm - drove through Illinois 2x in the last week. We went down to Orlando to watch our daughter perform with her choir at Disney. Not sure how close we came to your place.
