Mendota is just 15 minutes from my house! Did you stay at the Comfort Inn there? A guy that goes to our church, Jeff, works there on 2nd and//or 3rd shifts. Let me know next time you are passing this way!

Wow, we were close! We stayed at the Super 8 - checking in at midnight and leaving at 7:00 am. Everyone was tired of driving! Next time, we will have to plan to meet.

Got an even dozen, 6 brown eggs and 6 white eggs, today......plenty for our household of three....one of which doesn't eat eggs...with extras to share.

That means out of the 11 Icelandic females (5 hens and 6 pullets) 3 are broody and 6 laid an egg today and out of the other 9, 1 Araucana, 7 NHs and 1 RIR, 6 laid an egg today.
I can afford to lose a few eggs if it means I don't have to brood chicks! Not to mention the added bonus of the entertainment the mommas and chicks provide!
Love my broodies!!

Sounds like this is hatching central! Mary, I love the picture of all your eggs. So many shades of white! And your broodies are beautiful. Who was Gola's mother? Forsaela?

I'm still getting settled in at my new home. I have most of my chickens out here, and it's so nice to be able to leave the roosters in the yard all the time. No more garage hotels for them! I did find out that we've got cougars roaming here, though, so I'm going to have to build a fortress out there. I've already had a few birds escape and have to be thrown back in the run :/

Hope everyone is well.
