Icelandic Chickens

Haha. That would work. I'm just getting nervous cause she's already been there for a week!!! I hope she doesn't get tired of laying on infertile eggs or get off the fertile ones early!
I've had 2 broodies this spring. Both of them went to 6 weeks plus. For one of them I tried to find local hatching eggs for 4 weeks but couldn't, then when I found some she sat on them for 10 days but they were not fertile. Then I put golf balls back under her and looked for chicks so then several days later I got her some Icelandic chicks from a nearby breeder. I know she sat tight for a long long long time. According to my count it was a day or 2 over six weeks. The second broody sat for 3 weeks on golf balls then I gave her some fertile eggs and she hatched those 3 weeks later so that was 6 weeks for her. If you don't discourage them they will sit and wait a long time.

How do you feed them? I just have food and water out in her cage. Is that enough? I can tell sh's eaten a little. But not a lot...
For my broodies I just put a little handful of layer pellets or sunflower seeds in front of them a couple times a day. I didn't put water by them because I did think they should get up now and then and move around a bit (and poop lol) and I didn't want water spilling into the nest or bedding.

Your little icies remind me of some of mine

Lovin' the chick pics farnorth and Mike!

.......and Moose.....he looks like such a sweetie!

Caught some kind of a "bug" last weekend and it had me down and out for a few days.....playing catch-up with chores and BYC. I'll try and get some pics of the mommas and chicks and the Kentucky hens have been released from their quarantine......except one that seems to be glued to the nest box..........
