Icelandic Chickens

I set 17 Icelandic eggs today. I hope I have some broodies before May 5th.

I'm going to be gone this weekend and have no one to turn eggs, I can't join that one

I was hoping for a broody to stick some eggs under but no such luck.

...but the Easter Hatchalong chicks are enjoying being outside in the nice weather we've been having.

Following. I am interested in Icelandics. There is a breeder near me in Northern WI. I hope to have some in the future. I have seven assorted layers and no rooster. I also have two separate coops/runs and plan to keep separate flocks. Am just reading all I can for now. There are other breeds that I have been interested in but these really get me. I just keep on coming back. Beautiful birds. :)

Welcome! They are certainly a treat to have.

Mary, those pictures are cute. The first one is my favorite. Hvit is a leggy little thing, isn't she?

The chicks are really growing.
Have a good trip this weekend. Last year I hatched some Memorial Day weekend, but I don't think it was a hatch a long.

So far 5 have hatched and movement still in two of the eight that were left after the candling. Second batch should start to hatch the 24th. 15 developing well in that batch. 36 eggs ready to set for test batch 3 tomorrow. Here is a pic of a few from batch 1.
