Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

In case you haven't followed the Coop building thread, Kelly (Happy Chooks) challenged Lukka to a bet. The bet was to see which would happen first, Kelly would finish her coop, or Lukka would stop the broody nonsense and start laying again.

See it and weep Kelly! Lukka wins! This was found in the nest box yesterday with Isi sitting on it! Lukka was exiting stage left.

Or so it seems. She is back with Isi, the love of her life.

Watching the sunrise maybe?

Nope, looking for the the big chicken baby!

Luckily they found him, five feet away. Whew, that was a close call.

Resume obsessive parenting.

Ah man, she beat me! But at least when my coop is done, I'll be able to get some Icelandic eggs, so it's not all bad!

I'm happy for you that she finally decided to quit being broody!

The Divine Miss M (Partridge Silkie) with her Icelandic baby:

Skye (Ameraucana) with her two Icelandic babies:

And the ever ridiculous Lukka (Icelandic) with her big Icelandic baby.

Too cute are Skye and Miss M who raised their babies in the same small coop. They all hang out together but each knows who's baby is who's and who's Momma is who's. All it takes is one cluck.

Like in the event of an attempted security breach at the chicken yard!

Some are very laid back and one little guy wants to fight everybody. They are a hoot to watch!

Yes, those eggs are calling to me!

Such variety! They are beautiful!

And Kathy, my excuse............We've been out of town lots this summer. I can only get so much work done myself. The exterior is completely finished except for the door - gotta build that next week. Last weekend we got all the lodge poles sunk in concrete for the run. I need to go out and snap new pics, I was waiting for the door to be done.

Oops, my bad. Just deleted the post. To my horror, I just found out that my white silkie, Dolly, started laying and she lays small white eggs! Those could be hers. So as much as I love her, I can't have any white egg layers around except the Icelandics. I might bathe her and see if I can convince my barn builder that he needs a silkie. Sorry, but I would be happy to collect the big white eggs for you!

p.s. Kelly I am looking forward to the pics!

Your silkie is feeling jealous, huh? Had to get in on the action? I wonder if my husband would notice a silkie roaming around?

He saw a picture of one once and said "what the hell is THAT?" and "it doesn't even look like a chicken".

I'll get some pics soon. And as soon as I'm able to hatch, I'll be hitting you up for eggs. And I'll bring you some nectarine jam next week when we meet, along with your bator that's been sitting here, what 6 or so months now? (I've lost count on how long I've had it.

) Wait, you brought me BCM babies with it - hang on a sec gotta check their ages - I've had it since February!!!!

An unused bator? Are you kidding me? That's sinful .... they should be in use at all times, I was told.

Love the pictures, Mary. Which is your favorite? I like the ones with crests, and with the funky combs best.
