Look at this picture of Lukka's first baby. They are almost identical. She just started laying this week at almost six months old. She may have to go to Kelly as a pair with the extra roo. See, they already like each other!

Someone pointed me to this thread, and I'm thrilled to find other Icelandic Chicken owners!

We have some from Lyle Behl, and have had them since March of 2007. I have about 50 of them at this point.

Very nice birds Lisa. I have seen your pics on Flicker. Great to see you on here. I have some from Lyle's line as well. OMG your comment about them being good broodies made me laugh. I have a silly girl who lays one egg and becomes broody. Right now she is still taking care of her last "baby" who just turned 11 weeks old! It is ridiculous. I suspect the "baby" is a roo but should it turn out to be a hen, I suppose Lukka will still be sleeping on top of it when she starts laying!

Wow, 50 Icelandics. I just counted mine last night and have 27 chickens in total, but that includes 9 different breed laying hens. So I guess I have 18 Icelandics. I better fire up the incubator!

Everyone's Icelandis are beautiful!! What an interesting breed! I had never heard about them before reading this thread. They probably wouldn't do well here due to our heat and humidity, but I think they are gorgeous and I am so glad there are people who are trying so hard to preserve this breed
