Icelandic Chickens

I love the one with the little mohawks. They are vikings lol!!! Have you noticed if the ones with the little crest are growing up to be male or female? Or do they both have it? I read that in Swedish Flower Hens, the females are the ones that can sometimes have a head crest (but not always have one) but they males don't nomally have them. Just wondering if it was similar for the Icelandics?

I have none with crests yet. Here are my parent stock....

Kathy, Do you have them all together? Do both roos cover the girls? I have Ari in with my two girls (and two SLWs) and Audun I have with my 4 SLW layers. They got to where they would spend all their time fighting after they were added to the main flock so it was splitsville for them.

Pretty birds ladies!

I took these pics tonight at bedtime.

22 juvies crammed themselves into the grow-out coop under the sweeter heater!

Then in the big coop: My rafter sleepers:

My roost sleepers:

And my shelf sleepers:

Everybody is puffed up due to the cold! Down to 22 degrees tonight quite possibly! The flat panel coop heater is on because they are not used to this cold.

Not used to the cold? Ummmmm, aren't they from Iceland? I'm pretty sure it gets cold there.

They had better hurry up if they want to beat the olive egger and bantam cochins that have started zipping!
