Icelandic Chickens

Welcome back Kelly. I am so glad you are back. It is about time! There are a lot of roosters out there awaiting their date with the stewpot!

Yep, Stella went to town, then got her wings clipped, and today she laid an egg for the first time in well over a year. I know it is her's because it's green! Maybe I will slip it in with the white eggs I am sending to Andy tomorrow and see if he's paying attention.

p.s. I cleaned the barn coop! Yay me! I backed the Polaris up to the door, shoveled out the shavings, drove around to the back of the barn and dumped the bed, making myself a compost pile! It only took three trips. Then I swept it all out, used the shop vac to get all the corners, window sills, and screens. I put down fresh shavings and it almost looks and smells like it did when I built it. Remember how the Icelandics are also known as "pile chickens" for their tendency to dig around in manure piles? By the time I got done they were all digging their way to China through their own poop! From inside the barn it sounded like we were in the midst of an invasion of giant rats. Why does cleaning a coop feel so good when it's done? Is this all there is to life after the chicken crazy takes over?

Even better news? I have eggs on auction and at noon they were up to $5.00. Hubby said "if they get to $10.00 I am taking you out to dinner! Guess what??? I am going to dinner, they are at $10.25!

So sorry you are having to deal with all this Cheryl. But have fun picking out stuff! I saw some Brazilian Cherry Hardwood floors recently that were STUNNING! (but very pricey)

Thanks Mary, I'm so happy to be back!

I can't believe you cleaned your coop in the rain! Make Michael take you to Monkey Cat for dinner. (on Lincoln Way) We went there last night and it was fabulous as always. They have swordfish on special (got mine NOT blackened) and hubby had Filet Mignon.

I may just do that! Oh wait I just looked at their website. I will probably wait to go there until I am hungrier or when my friends come back in town. I just ate a yogurt and a string cheese. Maybe I'll just go to Mel's for some chili cheese fries.

Cheryl! Jeeze what a nightmare. I admire your strength. I'd be curled up in a fetal position.

Naw, you'd just take up drinking.

Nah, I gave that up years ago. It was getting out of control. There were some years I'd have 5 or 6 drinks!

I'm getting excited to get Icelandic eggs for the Easter Hatch!

Well, out of my five Icelandics. I've decided that at least 3 are roos and maybe more...I'll be back, right now is a good time to go take some pics and you all can help me decide.
