Icelandic Chickens

Spring???? What is that?

I am trying to load a video to my blog so I can post a link here, I've never done it before so wish me luck. They are the cutest little stinkers.

I've noticed some things lately.

A) Much like Velociraptors, these guys will study the lid to their brooderbefore taking a jump at it, then they appear to rethink their attack then try again. It's quite funny to watch but I'm fully expecting to come home to a recreation of Andy's kitchen, babies all over the room.

B) We seem to have a general in our ranks. Or at least a nosey neighbor. This one is my little emergency responder. If I reach in the brooder and grab a chick and it starts panic-peeping, this one runs right over and studies the situation and even has pecked at my hand as if trying to aid the captive. I have no idea of the gender but it's fun to watch.

'Wow !

That is pretty high level dominance!

I would hate to see that in a pullet, you'd never take any eggs away . Seems to me you got a great little roo stated there.

Thats too much spirit for you way up there in vacation land, you'd best send him on down to me.

Mary around here spring is July 1rst through 3rd, summer is July 4th and the rest is winter.

Just for the record.

When the chicks come out of the bator they get custom fit parkas and mukluks.

We have had over a foot of snow, and it does seem to be letting up.

This is what keeps us from getting run over by city folks. So all is good

You didn't think Mary calls them escape artists for nothing, did you?

With that look in the 2nd pic, that HAS to be a male. (no offense to the human male participants here

) If it ends up being a female, you're gonna have your hands full with that spunky one!
