Icelandic Chickens

I read this thread daily. It is so wonderful to see all your little chicks and beautiful big birds! The emu babies are awesome. I am on pins and needles and figured this group would understand. If all goes well

Well, I am very uneasy about something, and thought that this was the best forum to air it. So herewith:

I received an email this morning from Daria ref to the "Society for the Preservation of Icelandic Chickens" had a new President, and lets all welcome him !

Huh????

I didnt know that there was any such organization. I dont know Lyle, the new president, and wish him well, I guess he is a good guy being the actual first here with Icelandics. And has to be pro Icelandic Chicken to be elected President of the New Society !

So I should be just full of warm fuzzies and feelings huh

????

NOT!!!

Daria has posted here for several days now, I dont think its rude or presumptuous of me to wonder why if this society was existent, and even going to have an election for president that she couldnt have let us know all about this great thing. I mean we are a nation of rule of law and all of that good stuff, right?? I'd probably have said, great, lets get it on!

That didnt happen.

I would like to say that I am sorry for the way that I feel about this, but frankly I am not.

To whom it may concern, and for ever what its worth, I want nothing to do with it, being born under a cloud is a lousy start for any breed organization. I am a founding member of two cattle registries, the American International Charolais Association (Board Officer and on the Genetics Committee) and the American Chianina Cattle Association.

I was proud to be a member of both organizations.

I will sit out this Icelandic Preservation Society. It has a foul odor, not a fowl odor. Another way to say it :

"I'd liked to be kissed once or twice before I 'get it'. "

OTOH, if Mary O'Brian and Kathy and Camelot and Michelle and Andy and others who have been here awhile want to start an Icelandic Breed Club I am all for it and will be glad to participate however that I can.

If not , okay, we can go on as we are, and somewhere down the road a breed club will start, that all will know about from the get go and can participate in.

Otherwise I think I should cancel those eggs that are coming and close back up my Hovabator and return to the Heritage Breeds I know and love.

Right now I guess that I am in what most would call a wait and see mode.

Next ? Comments? Sayonaras?

update to the previous post, I received this from Daria a few minutes ago and replied to her, my reply first , then her post to my original inquiry about a new society:

JaKE WROTE:

Hello Daria

It left a sour taste in my mouth, so those you mentioned I assume knew about it? Whynot the rest of us ?

I'll pass, please take me off your list.

Jake,

We didn’t vote this time. It was between Sigrid, Mary & Lyle. Mary & Sigrid just didn’t feel up to it.

I didnt know about any of this, its good to have, but, knowing ahead of time would have been nice, I might even have voted for him.

Jake

End of posts quotes.

So, several were talking about a Society, and decided to start one, a topic that came up was who will be president? Lyle was decided on, I dont know how many others knew, thats academic to me. Its an excellent idea of starting an organization, the process left a great deal to be desired, like openness, something I heard mentioned often 2 years ago in the campaign.

As I posted previously, I was in a wait and see mode, now I have seen, and too much.

For those folks who kindly offered to send me eggs please cancel those, Mary, Kathy and Camelot.

I wont be needing them, but I thank you for your good hearted offers.

I wish you all here well, and good luck with your chickens, they are indeed a beautiful and fascinating breed of Chickens .

I will concentrate on my original heritage breeds .

Actually Jake, Lyle Behl would be a good choice for President of an Icelandic Club. He has been raising them since he first imported hatching eggs in 2003. Many of the eggs we all have originated from his first importation. He is quite knowledgeable and preservation minded, now also working with the Auburn Javas.

The eggs you get from me in a couple of weeks will have some that originated from Lyle's birds.

I want to find out more about the group, but with it going in the right direction I may be interested in joining. I believe Sigrid would be delighted as she very much respects Lyle and his work with Icelandic preservation.

But everyone has to make their own decision about whether or not to join a club. I am probably going to give it a try.

Jake,

I take full responsibility for this. Daria is a great gal, more motivated than the average person. This Club was my brainstorm. But you yourself have only been on this thread a short time and theres a lot you don't know, and thats ok I'm not knocking you. I presented this idea to Mary first, she is a friend and an angel to all of us. What we all have in common here is Icelandic Chickens, I don't care at about who is what blah blah blah, everyone here is a blessing plain and simple, personalities differ, people take different approaches to life and we all need to be kind and understanding and supportive. Period. The people here that I know longer and better you have mentioned, the existence of a club changes nothing. It offers something some may want, and others won't want to be a part of it. Thats fine. no love lost. A club aint nothin but a thang brother! People and their hearts are everything in my book and I am as happy as a lark just a chatting with my friends here on BYC and Mary, Kathy, Chooks, Cheryl, Jake, Ryan, Daria anyone I missed are all on my "favorite people" list. I really think that this subject should be dropped now for the sake of peace and if anyone has interest in the Club, great, if not great. We are all about our little blessing of Icelandic Chickens and our BIG blessing of sharing life with one another.

Thanks Mary, you are an angel as always! I love you and I love this group! (this next line is to be read in a very southern afrocentric way, actually how I say it!) Thank you Jesus! Yessss Lord! Hallelujah!

I agree that it is time to drop the subject. People's styles differ. Some people lurk forever before they get up the courage to speak others jump in with both feet.

I am old so I feel like I can tell stories from my past.

As a nurse administrator I worked for a huge company. Those of us in the trenches made that company what it was and is today, not the suits at headquarters. The company called a conference and brought admins in from all over the country to reward us. It also was the opportunity to introduce the new CEO of the company. The room went dark, a bright spotlight shot up to the ceiling, the theme from "Rocky" began blaring from the speakers and suddenly the new CEO rappelled down from a hole in the ceiling wearing a cape, landing on the stage to thunderous applause. I have often wondered if the tumultuous years that followed would not have happened had he walked onstage and thanked us for the decades of hard work we put into the company, and asked for our continued support. It's all in the presentation.

I'm just sayin'

Wow. The words 'crass', 'tactless', 'self-aggrandizing', 'tone-deaf', and 'idiot' are the nicer ones that come to mind. I'll bet a lot of people walked out in disgust.

I lurked for a long time because there's so much information here already that all my questions could be answered by searching the archives. Then when I started my first incubation I was so excited I began posting more just so I didn't drive my hubby crazy with my chicken talk.
